Ellis County residents should begin to prepare to place bids at the largest fundraiser of the year benefitting the local SPCA organization.

The seventh annual Ellis County SPCA Dinner and Auction will take place this weekend. The animal shelter is celebrating 14 years of service.

This year the auction event — Paws in Hollywood — is movie themed. Tickets are available now until Friday on the Ellis County SPCA website under the “Gala” tab. Ticket prices include a variety of Italian food, catered by Villa Italiana. Admission is $50 online and $55 at the door.

The event is casual attire.

For those interested in bidding, an online service will be available to help facilitate. In fact, the early mobile online bibbing opened Aug. 20. At the event there will be a live auction and about 10 to 12 items will take traditional paper bids. The auction will conclude at 9 p.m. the evening of the gala.

A step-by-step video demonstration is available on the Ellis County SPCA website, also under the “Gala” tab. The link shows how to operate the mobile, online bidding system.

Ellis County SPCA Chairperson Tifani Pinson also informed, “You don’t have to be at the event for the bidding.”

Annually, the nonprofit spends about $20,000 a year to spay and neuter animals. Also, the organization recently joined the PAWS of Hope where dogs are sent to the Sardes Estes Unit — a prison in Venus — to undergo training. It costs roughly $1,000 to prep 12 dogs for the endeavor.

The money raised at the Ellis County SPCA Dinner and Auction will benefit programs, off-site events and provide supplies to the shelter and daily operations.

The Ellis County SPCA Dinner and Auction will take place at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25 at the Midlothian Conference Center, located at 1 Community Dr. in Midlothian. For more information, contact Tifani Pinson at tpinson@sbcglobal.net.
