The search to replace former Midlothian ISD Athletic Director Steve Keasler is expected to begin in November, MISD Chief Communications Officer Karen Permetti said.

After naming assistant athletic director John Crawford as the interim director, Permetti said the district would post the job on the human resources section of its website by November. Permetti said the position needs to be published for a minimum of 10 days before candidates could be considered.

“This is the busiest time of the year for our school district with football season going on,” Permetti said. “It’s not the best time of the year to get the best search.”

Permetti said once they have an initial screening for all of the candidates, the first round of interviews will begin for considered applicants. After that, MISD Superintendent Dr. Lane Ledbetter will interview the finalists. That is when he will make a recommendation to the Midlothian ISD Board of Trustees for the position.

Permetti said the timing depends heavily on how the football teams perform this season.

“If the teams don't make the playoffs, it’s usually the first or second week of November,” Permetti said. “But if they do make playoffs, they could go up through Thanksgiving.”

After a recommendation is submitted to the board, Permetti said the new athletic director would ideally be in place by late January or early February.
