One lucky dog will have a chance to be featured on the front cover of Ellis County Living magazine this holiday season.

The concept behind finding the cutest dog in Ellis County has a meaningful impact. as well. With a donation of $25, an Ellis County resident can submit a photo of their pup, and the proceeds will benefit Meals on Wheels of Johnson and Ellis Counties.

Paula Baucum, co-owner and partner/strategist for Ellis County Living, said the Pet Project was inspired through her own involvement with the nonprofit. Baucum has delivered Meals on Wheels for the past 14 years.

The magazine has also been in existence for 14 years and has never featured a dog on the front cover. Even though this is a first-time experience, Baucum assured this will be a new tradition.

The winner of the pet project will have his or her dog undergo a professional photo shoot to be showcased on the holiday edition of the magazine, which is the November/December issue.

All photo submissions will run in the interior of the magazine, for those who do not make the cut.

“The bottom line is who is the cutest dog in Ellis County,” Baucum said.

“I have volunteered with Meals on Wheels for the past 14 years, and I knew there is a strong contingent of folks in the marketplace that support Meals on Wheels and AniMeals projects," Baucum explained.

AniMeals is an extension of Meals on Wheels where volunteers deliver dog or cat food to members of the community who are homebound or elderly. This came about after the deliverers noticed the Meals on Wheels recipients were feeding their pets the daily meals.

The judges consist of Cindy Camp, publisher; Meagan Camp, the editor in chief; Carly Pechal, the art director; Lindsey Keeney, the creative director, and Baucum.

"The Pet Project is an exciting way to support our seniors throughout Ellis County," stated Lisa Deese, community relations for MOWJEC. "All monies raised will be used for meals for our seniors in need."

She continued, "'Help me help my humans' is a great way to brag about how cute your fur-baby is while serving the community by contributing to Meals on Wheels."

To submit a photo, log onto www.eclmpetproject.com. The deadline is Oct. 7.
