A 5,000-square foot shopping center will open near Mountain Peak by Jan. 2019.
The retail center, developed by Mansfield-based company A-Affordable Storage, will be established alongside 1590 W. FM 875, across from Mountain Peak Community Park. The Mountain Peak Plaza will also have a storage facility placed behind it, which will have 40-foot covered spaces and 10- to 25-foot units available for storage.
“Our office will be connected to the very end of that shopping center,” A-Affordable chief operating officer Cody Neef said. “Right now, it’s platted out for four tenant spaces at about 1,300 square foot a piece.”
The project broke ground in September, and construction is expected to go through the winter. Neef said the project is divided into two phases, and once the plaza is opened, the project will move into the second phase and expand in six to eight months.
“We’ve probably got about 200 units going in the first phase,” Neef estimated. “That includes mini-storage, boat and RV storage.”
Locally owned and operated, A-Affordable Storage has been in business for two years and currently holds two locations in Mansfield and Crowley. After their Midlothian location opens next year, Neef said they have a spot in Granbury that they’re looking to start as soon as phase one of the Midlothian location is complete. Neef said phase one includes 122 mini-storages, 32 covered RV/boat storage spaces and 32 covered parking spaces.
“It’s really exciting for me,” Neef said. “Now we’re just expanding and building more.”
Born and raised in Midlothian himself, Neef said he’s excited for A-Affordable to break into the Ellis County market and thinks there are many opportunities for growth in the city.
“All of my friends and family still live in town,” Neef said. “I always thought that it was a good market. I know how much it’s grown over the past five years, and it’s only growing more and more every day.”
According to a press release, pre-leasing is already available for the plaza. Owner Mitch Breeden said since many homeowners associations have restrictions against storing boats and RV’s on residential properties, he hoped to offer A-Affordable as an alternative storage solution.
“With the rapid growth of Midlothian, we saw a large need to serve individuals moving to the area who need a safe and secure place to store their belongings, as well as longtime residents who might need more room,” Breeden said in the release. “We’ll have something for everyone.”
