Following valiant efforts by all four Midlothian ISD varsity soccer teams, only two have advanced to the third round of the high school playoffs.
And both of those teams hail from Midlothian Heritage.
All four teams from Midlothian High and Midlothian Heritage advanced to their respective regional tournaments one season ago.
The Midlothian Lady Panthers came out on the wrong end of a 2-1 score against North Forney in the 5A Region II bi-district championship Friday at Lancaster ISD stadium.
Midlothian fell to 15-7-3 overall on the season, which included a head coaching change before the district slate began. The Lady Panthers finished third in District 14-5A with a 7-4-1 mark.
The soccer season came to an abrupt end for the Midlothian Panthers on Tuesday night in the 5A Region II area championship.
After a scoreless first half, Lufkin found the back of the net twice in the second half for the 2-nil win at Westwood High School in Palestine.
The Panthers won the District 14-5A championship outright with an 11-0-1 record.
They then defeated Terrell in the 5A Region II bi-district championship this past Thursday, 3-nil, at DeSoto ISD Stadium before falling Lufkin.
Shane Reasonover netted the eventual game-winner in the shutout victory. The goal came when Reasonover headed in an Arron Young corner kick.
Young and Justin Barnett later scored the final two Panther goals on assists by Christian Naizer and Erick Guerra.
The shutout was the ninth this season for Mason Crowther.
Midlothian ends the season with a 15-5-4 overall record.
The Midlothian Heritage girls' soccer team continued its march back to Georgetown with a 2-1 victory Tuesday evening against Celina in the 4A Region II area championship at Carroll ISD's Dragon Stadium.
After neither team found the net in the first half, Heritage junior forward Aaliyah Bivins broke the scoreless tie. The goal was the fifth of the season for Bivins and second of the postseason.
Rachel Allen, who leads the Jaguars with 21 goals on the season, scored the second goal on a penalty kick a little later in the half.
The Jaguars will now face Dallas Hillcrest in the Region II quarterfinals at 8 p.m. Friday at DeSoto Eagles Stadium. The Heritage boys' kick off the doubleheader at 6 p.m.
Heritage first faced Dallas Lincoln Friday in the 4A bi-district round of the postseason and walked away the easy winner, 10-nil.
Megan McCarthy and Taylor Golden recorded the shutout in goal.
Logan Berumen and Hannah Dorsey both scored a pair of goals and provided two of the Jaguars seven assists.
Brynn Pollock, Bivins, Kylar Kenter, Emma Rice, Emilee Page and Sydney Dickson also found the net for Heritage. Pollock, Bivins, Grayce Davis, Kayla Aston (3) and Dickson provided assists.
The Jaguars advanced to the postseason after winning their third consecutive district championship. They outscored the opposition 36-0 during the eight District 17-4A contest and are now 22-2-3 overall.
Heritage is the reigning 4A state champions.

The Jaguars will now face North Dallas at 6 p.m. Friday in the Region II quarterfinals at DeSoto Eagles Stadium. The Heritage girls follow at 8 p.m.
Heritage began its playoff march by defeating Wilmer-Hutchins, 3-2, Friday in DeSoto in the 4A bi-district round of the playoffs.
Head boys' soccer coach CaShan Clark tipped his hat the defensive efforts by Matt Stanton, Zach Schmidt, Trace LaFrenz, Brock Smalley and Konnor Koethe during the win against Wilmer-Hutchins.
Aidan Goodman scored the first goal of the match on an assist by Garrett Garvin. Garvin and Matt Stanton later added goals to complete the victory.
The Jaguars finished District 12-4A in second place behind Life Waxahachie, who has since bowed out of the 4A playoffs.
Heritage improved to 20-6-1 on the season with the area championship win.
