To the Editor,
Thanks to our city council, our property tax rate in Waxahachie has been held at 68 cents per $100 of property value. While at the same time, the city taxes in the municipalities all around us have gone up to between 71 cents to 85 cents per $100. Yet there are some that think our tax rate should be cut. They don’t seem to realize that if we cut the taxes we have to cut the services. What would they cut? The Police department? The fire department? The city parks? Close the hike and bike trail? Close the dump? Stop fixing the streets?
It takes money to have a safe, attractive and inviting city. While none of us like to pay taxes, we all have to do our part and pay for the kind of place where we like to live and raise our families. Call it “return on investment”.
Fortunately, in the past few years, we have been blessed with responsible, capable and intelligent people on our city council. Folks who have been good stewards of our money and guided our city in measured growth.
Let’s keep Waxahachie safe, attractive, inviting and well run. Vote to re-elect Mary Lou Shipley and Chuck Beatty to the Waxahachie City Council.
