The JV Jags dropped a hard fought game against a very good Stephenville JV team Thursday night by a score of 38-14. The offense sputtered in the first half but was brought alive by a big time 75 yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Xavier Manley. The Jags started to run the ball better in the second half led by RB Ty Taylor. Taylor had several nice runs behind offensive linemen Jake Godrey and Ayden Aldridge. Luke Ledbetter capped off a long drive with a one yard touchdown run in the 4th quarter. Reese Wuench added 3 catches for 50 yards.
The JV Jag defense made some big plays but was hurt by explosive plays from the Yellowjacket offense. Safety Tommy McKee played a nice game in the secondary with two pass deflections. Xander Spurger and Connor Powell played well on the defensive line and Linebackers Jaxson Pack and Devin Grizanti also made several tackles in this contest.
The Jags will play the La Vega Pirates this week at Heritage Field. Come out and support these student athletes as they have one more tune up game before district play.
The Heritage 9th Red Football team escaped in a thriller in Stephenville, winning the game 32-28 in the final seconds. With two minutes remaining in the 4th quarter the Jags found themselves down 28-26.
Led by Connor Strubbe and Landen Crispin up front, the Jags drove down the field. Zane Montelongo punched in the winning touchdown with seven seconds remaining.
Kasen Carpenter, Kaden Brown, and DT McCoy all added in touchdowns for the Jags. The defense led by Damian Alexander and Jaryn Watson made key stops, especially early on in the second half. Watson forced a fumble while Rylan Figueroa was able to recover. The Jags move to 3-1 on the season and will be at home Thursday against La Vega.
The Freshmen Chrome Team came away with a big 24-6 victory over Stephenville. The Jags came out early and scored with a Mason O’Neal rush.
The Jag defense was in a groove all night and didn’t let up an offensive score. Big plays were made by linebackers Jake Howard and Rylan Caldwell. Aidan Morris had great defensive coverage and had multiple pass breakups. Jordan Moffett played well at safety and made some big tackles. Markeith Bell and Andrew Escalante played fast on the defensive line.
Offense continued to run the ball behind Conner Terry and Mason O’Neal, who combined for a total of 4 touchdowns. The offensive line, led by Ben Brus, John Pologruto, and Cameron Poole, made great running lanes for Terry and O’Neal. The Jackets’ only score was on a kickoff return.
The Jags will travel to Haltom next week to continue the winning streak.
