Heritage High School’s volleyball team appears to be on target for a district championship as they ran their 17-4A record to 7-0 and kept their set record perfect as well in victories over Life Waxahachie and Alvarado last week.
HHS (21-17-1 overall) completely outmatched Life last Tuesday at home, sweeping the match 25-7, 25-9, 25-9.
Senior Hanna Larson led the way with 17 kills, while junior Elizabeth Schmidt added nine and senior Kelsey Carpenter seven. Schmidt also served five aces and Larson three. Senior Kaylee Rutenbar recorded six digs and senior Juliana Pologruto dished out 21 assists, with Carpenter adding 10.
On Friday, the team went on the road and had a tougher time, but still came away with the sweep of Alvarado after winning the third set in a 29-27 marathon.
Carpenter set the pace this time with 16 kills, 14 assists and six digs, while Larson chipped in with a dozen kills. Pologruto recorded 16 assists and senior Kloe Jansonius had eight digs, each recording team highs.
Heritage took on Ferris on Tuesday night. They will close out the regular season with Senior Night on Friday against Hillsboro, followed by a tune-up for the playoffs in the regular-season finale at Venus next Tuesday.
