The Jaguars of Midlothian Heritage reigned supreme over the Pirates of Crandall on Friday evening by battling the constant rain and drizzle, the sudden cold snap, the untimely three turnovers, and the onslaught of flying yellow flags.

In spite of it all, Heritage came away victorious over their district rival and soundly defeated the Pirates by the score of 23-7 at their home field, Don Floyd Stadium. The Jaguars now sit atop the District 4-4A (I) standings at 3-0, and their overall record stands at 4-3.

The defensive struggle between both teams took up most of the first half, but the halftime tally showed 16-0 in favor of MHHS. The Jag “D” was particularly stellar Friday night. They held, intact, the Pirates’ leading rusher (Damerian Wigenton) to only 4 yards for 11 carries. Crandall could only garner one lone touchdown in the third quarter of play.

Outstanding Jag players on offense were: QB Cade Sumbler (passing - 15 for 25, rushing - 133 yards, and 1 touchdown); WR Jay Wilkerson; and RB Latray Miller. The “MVP” of the night was the entire Jaguar defense, who allowed only 29 yards for the game.

Heritage will take a short voyage to visit the Life School of Waxahachie this Friday evening where they hope to continue their winning ways.
