Senior Night at Heritage High School was sweet for the home volleyball team as the Jaguars swept second-place Hillsboro, 25-7, 25-8, 25-18, on Friday evening, clinching the District 17-4A championship for the second year in a row on their way to a perfect 10-0 run through the district slate.
It was the final home match for seven HHS seniors: Kloe Jansonius, Cami Kelley, Juliana Pologruto, Kaylee Rutenbar, Hanna Larson, Liz Haralson and Kelsey Carpenter.
Carpenter finished the match with 13 kills and 14 assists, while junior Elizabeth Schmidt contributed 10 kills and four aces and Haralson finished with nine kills and four aces. Pologruto dished out 18 assists and Rutenbar led the back row with a dozen digs.
Heritage (24-17-1, 10-0) closed out the regular season against Venus on Tuesday night with a 25-13, 25-19, 25-14 victory. No statistics were available at press time.
The Jags will start the playoffs Tuesday night at 8 p.m. in Corsicana against Robinson, the District 18-4A fourth-place team. Hillsboro (21-10, 7-2) will face Gatesville, the 18-4A third-place finisher.
Last Tuesday, Heritage also dominated Ferris, winning by set scores of 25-4, 25-12, 25-5. Carpenter finished with 11 kills, 10 assists and eight aces, and Larson added nine kills and four aces.
Pologruto had a team-high 17 helpers and also had three aces. Rutenbar led the team with 13 digs, and Schmidt added four aces.
