COLLEYVILLE — Well-rested from the holiday break, the Midlothian High School girls basketball team returned to action on Tuesday and picked up a non-district victory, defeating Colleyville Heritage, 44-31.

Maykayla Jackson led the Lady Panthers with 14 points in the win, followed by Elise Jones with nine points and Kadia Ward with seven.

It was still a very tight game at halftime as MHS led 8-6 after the first eight minutes and maintained a 16-15 edge at the intermission. But the Lady Panthers started to pull away in the third period, taking a 27-23 lead. Then MHS outscored the Lady Panthers 17-8 in the final quarter to put it away.

Kaylee Lewis led Colleyville with 10 points, followed by Karalie Morrison with nine and Emi Steele with eight.

The Lady Panthers will play in the She Got Game tournament at Fieldhouse USA in Mansfield, starting Thursday against the Aussie Basketball Travellers second team at 6 p.m. They will then take on IMG Academy (Fla.) at 4:45 p.m. on Friday, and on Saturday, MHS will play the Aussie Travellers first team at 10 a.m. and Arlington Bowie at 2:30 p.m.

The Lady Panthers return home to play Crowley next Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Boys: Faith Family 61, MHS 48

DALLAS — The Class 5A No. 12-ranked Panthers suffered their second straight loss as Dallas Faith Family, ranked No. 2 in Class 4A, took the win on Tuesday night.

The Panthers (8-2) open the Mansfield ISD Spring Creek Classic on Thursday against Shreveport (La.) Southwood at 1:30 p.m. at Mansfield Legacy High School, and tournament play continues Friday and Saturday.

Following the tournament, the Panthers will host Irving Nimitz on Monday night at 8 p.m.
