Hundreds of little ones will have a smile this Christmas after a community toy drive hosted by Midlothian High School raked in more than 750 toys.

The Dec. 5 drive was part of the WFAA Channel 8 Santa's Helpers toy collection charity, open to schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

To maximize collection efforts, toys were also collected up until Dec. 10 at different locations around town.

“We are very thankful to our students and the Midlothian community for the efforts to help make Christmas possible for struggling families,” School Administrative Assistant Monica Wolf said.

“We do plan to make this an annual event and double our toys next year,” added Wolf, even if it's not a part of the Santa's Helpers charity collection.

Channel 8’s Santa's Helpers, now in its 50th year, collects holiday toys for children throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth counties of Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant. Last year's toy drive reportedly provided toys to more than 50,000 children.
