The District 14-5A schedule got off to a rousing start for the Midlothian Lady Panthers against Corsicana on Tuesday night, as they rolled to a 74-33 home victory over the Lady Tigers.
MHS (8-6, 1-0) placed four players in double-figure scoring. Maykayla Jackson and Jerica Henderson tied for scoring honors with 14 apiece, followed by Kadia Ward with 13 and Mia Lara with 10. Other scorers were Landri Schreier with eight, Hallie Mayfield with seven, Nia Taylor with four, and Riley Crawford and Elise Jones with two each.
The Lady Panthers quickly took a double-digit lead in the first quarter and built a 39-20 halftime lead. After maintaining an 18-point edge through three quarters, they had a strong finishing kick, ending the game on a 25-2 run.
On Friday evening, the Lady Panthers tuned up for the district schedule with a 48-44 non-district loss against Class 6A Mansfield Lake Ridge.
Henderson led MHS with 11 points, followed by Schreier with nine, Jackson with eight, Ward and Jones with six each and Mayfield with four.
The Lady Panthers stayed within 8-7 after the first eight minutes, but Lake Ridge used a 15-9 second quarter to take a 7-point halftime lead. MHS got back within five points to start the fourth quarter.
Lake Ridge was led by Myra Francis with 16 points and Kylie Marshall with 13.
The Lady Panthers will travel to rival Red Oak on Friday before taking a break from the hardwood for Christmas. Immediately after the holiday, they’ll compete in the M.T. Rice tournament at Waco Midway Dec. 26-28.
