COLLEGE STATION — The Heritage High School girls basketball team captured the Division II Silver Bracket championship at the 2019 Aggieland Invitational on Saturday, beating Madisonville in the final, 43-42.

The Class 4A No. 21-ranked Jaguars (16-9) won two tough Friday games to advance, beating Houston Second Baptist in the Silver Bracket quarterfinals, 52-49 in overtime, and Lovelady in the semis, 41-39.

The Jags opened the tournament with a 57-40 victory over Orangefield on Thursday, but dropped to the Silver Bracket with a second-round loss to Dallas Greenhill.

Following the tournament, the Jags were scheduled to travel to 4A No. 5-ranked Glen Rose on New Year’s Eve for a non-district game at 12:15 p.m. Because of an early holiday deadline, those results were not available.

The Jags will launch the new decade with a non-district game at noon on Friday at Wylie East. This game will be their final tune-up for District 17-4A play, which starts Jan. 10 at Life Waxahachie.
