The Midlothian High School Panther soccer girls finished the first round of District 14-5A play Friday night with a 2-0 win over Red Oak at the Roesler Athletic Complex.

Sydnee Garner opened the scoring from a Mariah Griffin assist. Taylor Thibodeau gave the Panthers some breathing room late in the match from a Kaleigh Naizer assist. The defense helped Zoe Boldt earn her eighth shutout.

The MHS girls also got a solid 4-1 win over Waco University at the Roesler Athletic Complex on Tuesday night. Tori Sorrels and Naizer each got a brace with Naizer picking up one assist after Abby Powers engineered the first three.

The Lady Panthers (13-1-2, 7-0) will visit Cleburne on Friday evening at 5:30 p.m., then will be idle on Tuesday as they draw the district bye. They will host Joshua next Friday, Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m. at the Roesler Complex.

14-5A boys: MHS 4, Waco U 1

The Midlothian High School Panther soccer boys got a composed 4-1 win over Waco University at the Roesler Athletic Complex Tuesday night.

Jairo Moreno opened the scoring with an opportunistic finish from a Tanner Henderson assist. Justin Barnett bent an unassisted free kick in for the second. Henderson then scored from a Barnett assist for the 3-0 halftime lead. After a University penalty kick narrowed the gap early in the second half, Barnett got his second for the brace from an imaginative Christian Epperson assist.

The Panthers are 3-0-4 in district; 6-4-7 overall.

The Panthers also earned a 1-1 draw against Red Oak Friday night at the Roesler Complex. After falling behind on a successful Red Oak penalty kick, Juan Martinez got the equalizer in the second half from an Edgar Mancilla assist.

Next up for the Panthers is a district match at Cleburne on Friday night, followed by an open date on Tuesday. MHS will return to action at home against Joshua next Friday, Feb. 28.
