CORSICANA — The Heritage High School boys basketball team battled back from a 13-point halftime deficit against Waco La Vega, but the hill was too steep to climb as the Jaguars ended their season with a 54-47 loss in the bi-district round of the Class 4A Region III playoffs on Tuesday night at Navarro College.

The Jags finish with a 19-14 final record after taking the No. 3 seed out of District 17-4A.

La Vega inched out to a 14-11 lead after one quarter of play, and then took advantage of a cold spell by the Jags, outscoring them 17-7 in the second to go up at the half, 31-18.

HHS fought back in the third to get back to within 42-34 entering the final period, but the Pirates held on for the win.

A pair of juniors, Jordan Rogers and Jar’Quae Walton, led La Vega with 17 and 11 points respectively.

The Pirates advance and will face Mexia this weekend in the area round.

Heritage graduates six seniors — Gary Reed, Cody Hite, Tyson Wiens, Reggie Adams, Carson Roberts and Jared Cantrell.
