CLEBURNE — Fresh off winning its own tournament over the weekend, the Heritage High School softball team romped to a 15-1 road victory over Cleburne on Tuesday night in non-district play.
Winning pitcher Zoe Isom struck out seven and also batted 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI for the Jags (7-0). Kylee Murillo was 2-for-3 with two RBI; Ashley DeShasier tripled with three RBI; and Elizabeth Schmidt finished 2-for-4.
On Saturday, Jessica Hershey homered and had three RBI in a 9-3 win over Godey in the championship game of the Heritage Tournament at HHS. Murillo batted 2-for-3, and Jo Lenzer and Haley Warren both went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI.
All tournament games Friday were moved to Cleburne, and the Jags advanced to the finals by routing the Lady Jackets, 13-1 as Isom struck out seven and also batted 2-for-4 with two RBI. Warren finished 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Schmidt was 3-for-4 with three RBI.
Earlier on Friday, HHS got its first test of the year against a scrappy Grandview team, winning 12-9 after overcoming a 3-run deficit to get the win. Isom finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and Lenzer was 1-for-3, with two RBI. Warren pitched for the win.
The Jags opened the tournament on Thursday with an 11-5 victory over Fort Worth South Hills and a 7-0 shutout of Godley. Murillo was the winning pitcher against South Hills, and Isom fanned six in the win over Godley. Isom added two doubles and four RBI, Warren tripled and Schmidt doubled in the Godley game.
The Jags are entered in the Glen Rose tournament this weekend. They will open against Paradise on Thursday at 1:15 p.m. and will take on Clifton immediately afterward. They’ll face Peaster on Friday at 1:15 p.m. and host Glen Rose at 8:15 p.m., with a game scheduled for Saturday morning at 11:30 against Dublin.
On Tuesday, the Jags will travel to Palmer for a non-district game at 5 p.m. before playing in the Johnson County Clash starting next Thursday.
