ALLEN — The Collin County Classic was a tough one for the Heritage High School baseball team as they managed one win and two ties against a treacherous field over the weekend at Allen High School.
The Jags notched their only win of the weekend against Grayson Christian on Friday, 14-8 in five innings. HHS scored runs in each of the four innings played.
Blake Wilhoite led the way by batting 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Roc Martinez and Brock Fuller each added a pair of RBI. Cade Sumbler got the win in 3 2/3 rocky innings of work, allowing four earned runs on five hits.
Along the way, the Jags tied Fayetteville (Ark.), 9-9 on Thursday, and also tied Providence Academy, 3-3, on Saturday. The Jags suffered losses to Trophy Club Byron Nelson, 12-2, and host Allen, 10-0, both Class 6A schools.
Wilhoite was 2-for-2 with two RBI in a bright spot for HHS against Byron Nelson, and Sumbler homered and was 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored in the draw with Fayetteville.
The Jags (4-3-2) will travel to Palmer on Friday for a non-district game.
