WACO — The Midlothian Lady Panthers had their hitting shoes on as they put together 11 hits total to defeat Waco University, 10-5, in the District 14-5A opener for both teams on Tuesday.
Maddie Morrow and Bailey Hughes did most of the slugging for the Lady Panthers. Morrow had a 4-for-4 performance at the plate, with three RBI, two doubles, a home run and three runs scored. Not to be outdone, Hughes finished 3-for-4 with two homers, a double and a game-high five RBI.
Hannah King, who added an RBI double, went the full seven innings for the win, allowing three earned runs on six hits. King struck out three and walked three.
The game was tied at 4-all until the top of the fifth inning, when the Lady Panthers scored three runs to take the lead for good. They added three more runs in the sixth inning.
On Friday, the Lady Panthers (6-5, 1-0) took no prisoners at home as they pounded Greenville, 16-1, in a four-inning run-rule rout.
Farryn Aday finished 3-for-3 with four RBI, Kaylee Hlavaty had three RBI and Payton Gooch and Carsen Kitchens each drove in two. Kristalyn Brown scattered six hits and struck out four in the circle to get the win.
The Lady Panthers will host Cleburne on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the MHS softball diamond. They have a district open date next Thursday.
