Ethel Sheppard Herrin

April 14, 1931 –

Aug. 11, 2013

Ethel Sheppard Herrin, 82, of Waxahachie passed away Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, in Italy, Texas with her loving family at her side.

Ethel was born April 14, 1931, in Italy, Texas to the late Nollie and Nora Gardner. With her family, Ethel moved to Waxahachie in 1949 and later went to work at the A&P in the early 1960’s. She was witness to the change of hands from A&P to Piggly Wiggly to Safeway to Minyard, where she retired in the 1990’s.

Ethel knew everyone in Waxahachie and many folks would wait in her checkout line just so they could say hello or to see her smiling face so she could make their day, and of course, check up on the latest gossip.

Ethel was a lifelong Baptist and she had a great and special relationship with her Lord. As said by her family, she liked her soap operas, but her life was her children and grandchildren. Faith, family and friends are what made Ethel so special. She will be missed by all who came in contact with her.

Ethel is survived by her loving children, Lynda (Ronnie) Wynns of Milford, Steve (Alea) Sheppard of Waxahachie, and Jamie McLauren of Hurst; grandchildren, Clay (Becky) Sigler, Jill Hocutt, Kristi Sheppard, Mandy (Daryl) Hocutt, Brandon (Megan) Reynal, Clayton McLauren; 11 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; and her brother, Larry Gardner of Waxahachie.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; first husband and love of her life, Clay Sheppard; second husband, Herold Herrin; two sisters, Edna Yarborough and Bonnie Compton; and brother, Kenneth Gardner.

Friends and family may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at the Boze, Mitchell, McKibbin Funeral Home, 511 W. Main St. in Waxahachie.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the Hillcrest Burial Park.

Pallbearers will be Hunter Hocutt, Tyler Hocutt, Clint Sigler, Matt Loyd, Clayton McLauren and Brandon Reynal. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. James Pickens, Mike Compton, Mike Kitchens and Jimmy Henzler.
