AMARILLO — Nadia Morales' 15 points led the Lady Plainsmen to a 25-17, 21-25, 22-25, 25-9, 15-4 win Saturday at Amarillo Palo Duro in District 3-5A competition.

Morales scored on 13 kills and two aces for the team high in points while Kinzi Hudson, Meagan Jimenez, and Addison Nieman followed in double digits.

Taylor Salsky recorded a team-best 33 assists and Jimenez served up nine aces.

Monterey (17-18 overall, 4-10 in district) will play its second-to-last home match of the season at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday against Amarillo High. Palo Duro (1-11 in district) visits Canyon Randall at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

It was a banner weekend for the Lubbock High girls team in duel matches at Grapevine and Frisco.

The Lady Westerners defeated Frisco Wakeland in the Frisco ISD duel meet competition on Saturday and Estacado as well as Grapevine in Friday's duel meets in Grapevine.

Shaena McCloud and Aspyn Osburn led the team to a 109-61 victory against Wakeland.

McCloud had first-place times in the 200-yard medley and 100-yard butterfly of two minutes, 17.18 seconds, and 1:00.99, respectively. Osburn won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:34.41 and the 100-yard backstroke.

Malia Wilikes and Laura Byers picked up wins in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke, respectively.

The Lubbock High girls relay teams won the 200- and 400-yard freestyles.

Kolos Nagy earned a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.80 and Chris Marpa placed first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.40, but the Westerners fell to Wakeland, 96-74.

The Westerners defeated Colleyville Heritage on Friday by a score of 119-49.

Coronado's teams dropped a duel meet with Frisco Reedy and Monterey's fell to Frisco High.

Highlights for Coronado included freshman Carson Daily's winning time of 1:56.09 in the boys 200-yard freestyle and Reagan Hayes' first-place finish of 5:22.69 in the girls 500-yard freestyle.

Among Monterey event victories were Thomas Forbes winning time of 1:59.89 in the 200-yard freestyle and a girls 400-yard freestyle relay win.

Coronado's boys and girls defeated Monterey in a head-to-head duel meet Friday, and the team went on to defeat Colleyville Heritage later in the day.

Monterey's boys lost to Grapevine.

The Coronado and Monterey girls both lost to Colleyville Heritage.


GRAPEVINE — The Coronado boys finished fourth in the Dick Wilson Invitational on Saturday to headline all Lubbock ISD teams.

Rhett Hensley scored a 389.90 to earn third place in the boys 11 dive competition.

The Monterey girls finished fifth on the girls side and Lubbock High finished sixth.

Monterey's Tahle Monk placed second among 18 competitors in the six dive competition with a score of 148.90 and Lubbock High's Alyssa Coronel scored a 122.75.

Payton Props, the defending Class 5A girls state champion, placed fifth in the 11 dive event with a score of 366.40.
