A Heritage shot draws a crowd under the basket during last Tuesday's game at Hillsboro. The Class 4A No. 13 Jaguars easily handled the shorthanded Lady Eagles, 57-19.

HILLSBORO — Jerzie Bryant scored a game-high 18 points and added seven rebounds as the Class 4A No. 13-ranked Heritage High School girls’ basketball team powered to a 57-19 District 11-4A road victory over Hillsboro last Tuesday night.

Elizabeth Schmidt added 10 points and four rebounds for the Jaguars (13-4, 5-0), and each and every Heritage player scored at some point during the game. Other scorers were Kora Huff and Grace Sweeney with six points each, Elise Stafford and Maddie Berumen with five each, Cayla Williams, Kylar Kenter  and Asia Purnell all with two each, and Ivy Preusser with one.

HHS seized control of this game quickly, leading 21-4 at the end of the first quarter and 42-13 at halftime.

For the Lady Jags it was a complete team effort as basically each and every player played half of each quarter.

Hillsboro (0-12, 0-3) was only able to dress seven players for the game and to their credit they left nothing on the court at the end of the game. The Lady Eagles battled each and every quarter, contested every loose ball and ran when they had to be completely spent. Hillsboro was led in scoring for the night by A. Casteniata with 8 points. J. Rigsby added 3 points as well as D. Houston with 4 points.

On Saturday, the Jags rolled to a 61-28 home win over Life Waxahachie.

The Jags were scheduled to host Ferris on Tuesday night. They will host Alvarado on Friday at 7 p.m. at the HHS main gym to start the second half of the District 11-4A schedule, and will travel to Godley next Tuesday.

The Jag boys’ games against Life and Hillsboro were both postponed because of COVID-19.
