The Midlothian High School girls’ basketball team bounced back from last Tuesday’s loss at Red Oak with a big District 14-5A win at MHS Arena on Friday evening, hitting on a total of 10 3-point baskets in easing past Corsicana, 69-39.

The Lady Panthers (13-10, 3-1) jumped out to a 23-6 lead after the first eight minutes and continued to pull away from the Lady Tigers throughout the first half, taking a 42-18 halftime lead.

Elise Jones scored a game-high 22 points, including 13 points and three 3-point baskets in the first eight minutes; Bailey Davis knocked down five 3-pointers en route to 19 points; and Sheridan Silvers pitched in with 10 points for the Lady Panthers. Other scorers were Halle Manwarren with seven, Lilly Pearce with four, Aaniyah Hayes with three and Karley Massey and Hannah Hill with two each.

MHS ended its holiday break at Red Oak last Tuesday evening and suffered a 43-29 loss to the Lady Hawks.

The game was reasonably close for the first quarter and a half, until a barrage of 3-pointers by Red Oak, including one by North Texas signee Breanna Davis, made it 27-12 at the half. The Lady Hawks led by as many as 22 in the fourth before settling for the final outcome.

The Lady Panthers were slated to visit Waco University on Tuesday. They will entertain Cleburne at MHS Arena this Friday at 6:30 p.m., then will take next Tuesday off for a district bye. They will jaunt to Joshua for another 6:30 p.m. game next Friday, Jan. 21.
