Lady Panthers finish 14-5A slate without losing a set, warm up with 4-set win at Waxahachie

The Class 5A No. 14-ranked Midlothian Lady Panthers closed out a perfect run in District 14-5A on Tuesday night with a 25-12, 25-12, 25-21 sweep over Joshua at Dieterich Middle School.

The Lady Panthers (35-7, 12-0) did not drop a set in district games this season, going 36-0 despite playing some home games off-site because of construction at MHS Arena.

Kenna Buchanan led the Lady Panthers with 13 kills and two aces, while Kennedy King and Killian Armstrong each added 10 kills. Jenna McMichael finished with 18 digs and Lauren Safrit with 17 digs, and Karli Rector had 21 assists and 13 digs in the win.

In a warm-up match on Saturday, the Lady Panthers traveled to Class 6A Waxahachie’s Mike Turner Gymnasium and came away with a 19-25, 25-13, 25-16, 25-16 win over the playoff-bound Lady Indians.

Buchanan finished with 13 kills and 11 digs, followed by Uryah Guevara with nine kills and three blocks, Armstrong with eight kills and four blocks

Other contributors were Rector with 22 assists; McMichael with 21 digs; Angelina Masojc with five kills and three blocks; Liliana Garay with 17 assists and 11 digs; and Safrit with 11 digs.

The Lady Panthers were set to take on Royse City in the bi-district round of the 5A Region II playoffs on Monday night at Kaufman High School. The winner will advance to face either Marshall or Huntsville in the area round this weekend.
