Panther wrestlers qualify 6 for state

Trio of athletes win regional championships; UIL meet is this weekend

The Midlothian High School boys' wrestling team claimed three regional individual championships last weekend at the Class 5A Region II met at Rock Hill High School. Eli Biermann, Karson Tompkins and Marshall Hodges each won gold medals to advance to state, and Felix Saunders will also return to state after winning a silver medal.

Midlothian High School competed in the Class 5A Region II Wrestling Championships on Friday and Saturday, April 16 and 17, at Prosper ISD’s new Rock Hill High School.

The Panthers came away with three Regional Title winners and they will send one second place runner-up, as well as two alternate representatives to Houston’s Cypress Fairbanks for the University Interscholastic League state tournament scheduled next week for Friday and Saturday, April 23 and 24. Midlothian High School will be represented in the Class 5A boys and girls division.

The following are the exciting results from the weekend’s matches:

Regional Champions

Eli Biermann – 113 lb. division

Karson Tompkins – 182 lb. division

Marshall Hodges – 285 lb. division

Regional Runner-Up (2nd place)

Felix Saunders – 152 lb. division

State Alternates (4th place)

Tylor Knighton – 170 lb. division

Maddie Hodges – 138 lbs. GIRLS DIVISION

Additionally, Leo Terron was the 5th place winner for the boys 132 lbs. division. The Panthers are also the proud “Team Runner-Up” for the 5A Region II classification.
