John Reagan led Texas push to leave Union

John Henninger Reagan was a controversial figure in Texas history. He had a long record, serving as a judge, U. S. Senator, Confederate cabinet member, and chairman of the Texas Railroad Commission. While he was an outspoken defender of slavery and secession early in his career, he was later a defender of the interests of farmers against large railroad interests.

Lots of downtown fun on Heritage Day

For the second year in a row, downtown Midlothian was packed for the Heritage Day celebration on Saturday. The event included a 9/11 tribute, a free barbecue lunch, a classic car show, games, kids’ entertainment, retail booths, live performances on stage throughout the day, beer and wine, and a concert to end the evening. This year’s Heritage Day was presented by a partnership among the Midlothian Downtown Business Association, the Midlothian Chamber of Commerce and the Midlothian Community Development Corporation.

MHS holds off Shoemaker on the road

KILLEEN — The Midlothian Panthers trailed by four points at the intermission before rebounding in the second half for a 32-27 victory over Killeen Shoemaker on Friday night in the first District 4-5A (I) game of the season for both teams. Quarterback Chad Ragle completed 11 of 15 passes for 168 yards for two touchdowns, both of which went to Bryant Wesco.
