Elliott grabs thrilling Talladega victory, advances in playoffs

Always the unquestionable fan favorite at NASCAR’s famed Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, Georgia-native Chase Elliott made a last-lap pass to claim the NASCAR Cup Series YellaWood 500 victory Sunday afternoon – having to better one of his best friends, Ryan Blaney, to earn the first automatic bid into the next round of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs.

Turning wild hogs into cash

Having been raised on a small farm in northeast Texas, it’s hard for me to look at a hog, feral or domestic, as a pest but when it comes to feral hogs, I’ve had to change my thinking. Wild hogs do a great deal of damage to ranch and farmland and create problems for native wildlife, especially ground-nesting birds such as turkey and quail. Their numbers have to be controlled, I get that. But, it’s still hard for me to see all that good eating pork going to waste.

MISD teams run well at Ken Gaston Invitational

GRANDPRAIRIE—TheMidlothian Lady Panthers and Heritage Jaguars had a successful meet at the Arlington Houston Ken Gaston 26th Annual Invitational at Lynn Creek Park last Thursday morning. The Lady Panthers finished third in the Class 5A-6A Varsity I girls’ division and were led by freshman Lincoln Husbands, who came in second among individual runners in a time of 18 minutes, 39.2 seconds.

A recipe for a righteous holiday season

I’m sitting across from the Blonde right now. One of the best things I do everyday is drink coffee with her, talk about the news and pray together. The kitchen table is a blessing many families have forgotten about. I am however a little disturbed by something she just shared with me. I asked her what she was looking at on her phone and she replied, “A turkey chili recipe.”
