Republicans sweep local balloting

As expected, Republican candidates rolled to victory across the board in reliably-red Ellis County during last Tuesday’s general election. All five GOP nominees in local partisan races won election easily in final unoffi cial results, and statewide Republican candidates carried the county by anywhere from 65 to 69 percent, including Gov.

Residents inducted into Ellis County African American Hall of Fame

Ten former and current members of the community were inducted Ellis County African American Hall of Fame on Saturday for their work and accomplishments around the county. The third annual induction ceremony took place at First United Methodist Church and was organized by the Ellis County African American Hall of Fame Museum and Library and its founder/director/ CEO Jamal Rasheed.

A Hero’s Homecoming: Checkered Flag Foundation awards fifth service canine to deserving service member

On Nov. 11th, 2022, Brad Keselowski’s Checkered Flag Foundation (BKCFF) awarded their fifth service canine to a deserving service member during a special Veterans Day “A Hero’s Homecoming” celebration. BKCFF gives back to heroes through various initiatives that focus on supporting servicemen and servicewomen in their transition to civilian life, investing in their overall mental health, and providing resources to the families who make sacrifices for our freedoms as well.

Panthers well-grounded in bi-district

In a game of contrasting offensive styles, the Midlothian Panthers’ triple-option ground attack won the race again on Friday night. The still-unbeaten Panthers amassed 386 rushing yards — led by the tandem of running back De’ago Benson and quarterback Chad Ragle — and erupted for 31 second- quarter points to leave Justin Northwest behind at MISD Multipurpose Stadium, 51-34, in the bi-district round of the Class 5A Division I playoffs.

9 MISD athletes sign with colleges

Nine Midlothian ISD athletes were among 20 total from Ellis County who signed with colleges last Wednesday, the first day of the early national signing period for sports other than football. The state-ranked Midlothian High volleyball team netted three signings on Wednesday: Kenna Buchanan, who will play for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi; Jenna McMichael, who will play for Dallas Baptist; and Lauren Safrit, who will play for Oklahoma Baptist.

Opportunities abound with U.S. infrastructure upgrade

Infrastructure funding is flowing, and the majority of regional connectivity projects involve numerous stakeholders and therefore demand intensive coordination. Under normal circumstances, these multi-jurisdictional projects would be difficult, if not impossible, to deliver in the amount of time that funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill (BIL) will remain available. Yet recent White House initiatives are expediting review processes, promoting alternative forms of delivery, and facilitating stakeholder engagement.
