Best Season Ever? … NASCAR closes book on extraordinary

After a season that saw the successful debut of a new race car, a record-tying number of winners, fresh faces in Victory Lane, two ‘firsttimers’ reaching the Championship 4 and a wallride- for-the-ages, it’s easy to become hyperbolic when discussing the recently completed 2022 season. So, let’s do just that with this question … did we just witness the most competitive and noteworthy season in NASCAR Cup Series history ? The re-written record books suggest an answer… 19 Different Winners: The 2022 season tied the NASCAR Cup Series record of the most different winners in a single season (19) all-time; joining 1956, 1958, 1961 and 2001.

Lady Eagles back on top in TAPPS 2A

WACO — The Ovilla Christian School Lady Eagles are back atop the summit of TAPPS Class 2A volleyball after a one-year absence. The Lady Eagles had to work for it, but claimed the state title trophy with a 25-15, 28-26, 25-23 sweep of Pflugerville Concordia on Thursday afternoon for their fourth state championship in five seasons.

Big bucks and great friends

After six decades of hunting deer, I’ve come to enjoy spending time in the outdoors with friends at deer camp almost as much as actually harvesting the deer. But, don’t get me wrong, sun glistening off big antlers still gets my pulse racing. This past week, I not only enjoyed some great time with wonderful old friends but made some new ones as well. I was there in the blind with one of my best friends when he took the buck of his life and later invited to hunt with another great friend close to home where I put a big buck on the ground and meat in the freezer.
