- What are the most pressing challenges facing our community at a local level right now?
The rapid growth of the community (which is not necessarily a bad thing) often times is a strain on our current infrastructure. Improvements to the infrastructure are coming but may not keep pace with the rapid growth for a while.
The overall mental well-being of the community is also a concern. As our community grows, we see increased calls from citizens seeking assistance with mental health issues for themselves or their families. We are addressing the issue by seeking additional training for our officers in the area of mental health, and by adding additional staff specifically trained in this field. We recently received a grant that will allow us to explore these options.
- Considering the evolving media landscape, what role do you see local newspapers playing in the community five years from now?
Local media will have to increase on-line and social media presence, as this will soon be the only way people consume news.
- In your opinion, what role should our newspaper play in promoting civic participation and community involvement?
Sharing opportunities for civic participation and community involvement (especially local government and school-related opportunities) with consumers – through whatever platforms exist – is always a good idea.
- What community events or activities do you believe our newspaper should cover to better connect with our residents?
Same as above; emphasis on events sponsored by local government, local schools, and faith-based organizations will always be of interest to our community.
- Considering the current economic landscape, how can our newspaper support local businesses and contribute to economic growth in the community?
Partnering with the Chamber of Commerce and similar entities that champion local businesses.
