Scarecrow Festival

Midlothian Downtown Business Association presents the annual Scarecrow Festival, from Oct. 10 to Nov. 3. Entry forms are due Oct. 10. Scarecrows may be installed between Oct. 10 and Oct. 16 and must be picked up by Nov. 3. Judging and winner will be announced Oct. 18 at Heritage Day. The Crucible — Midlothian Heritage Theatre

The Crucible is a play by Arthur Miller set during the Salem witch trials of 1692. When a group of girls is caught dancing in the woods, they begin accusing townspeople of witchcraft to avoid punishment. Fear and hysteria spread, leading to false accusations, ruined reputations, and executions. The play explores themes of mass hysteria, integrity, and the abuse of power. Showings are set for Oct. 10 at 7 p.m., Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Oct. 12 at 2 p.m.

The Heights ‘Power of We’ Luncheon

The Heights Ellis County Family Resources is hosting its annual “Power of We” luncheon to support Ellis County’s most vulnerable. The luncheon supports a local movement and invitation for people and organizations to come together to guide the victims of family abuse to safety and hope. All proceeds from the luncheon benefit The Heights, which has been expanding services to victims of domestic abuse in Ellis County since 2021. Mockingbird Wildflower Walk

Mockingbird Nature Park, 1361 Onward Road
A half-mile excursion of the nature park, guided by members of the Texas Master Naturalists, Indian Trail Chapter of Ellis and Navarro Counties. Participants will learn about the wildflowers, native plants, and animal life of the park. Closed-toe shoes, comfortable outdoor clothing, and insect repellent are recommended. These events are free and open to children and adults of all ages but be aware that most trails are natural surface.
