P&Z approves use of plastics at site

The Midlothian Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday night approved a change in a planned development to allow plastics and rubber manufacturing, in a very quick first meeting of 2025.

A specific-use permit for a 12-acre property at 4521 North U.S. Highway 67 will allow for the manufacture of plastics and rubber products. No outside storage would be allowed, city planning director Mary Elliott told commissioners.

Two buildings already exist at the location. The first phase of the development would involve the northern warehouse. The business will use domestic water to expand and form pre-manufactured plastic and rubber pellets. Byproducts such as steam, exhaust, odor, etc. would be “negligible,” Elliott said.

The company that is locating at the site is looking to manufacture drainage systems, namely French drains. All manufacturing will take place inside the building.

Also approved during Tuesday’s meeting was a site plan amendment for Ivey Photography at 403 West Main Street. The studio is expanding and needs more room, hence the change.

Approved as part of the consent agenda were previous meeting minutes, a preliminary plat of a 127.352-acre property south of FM 1238 and east of South Walnut Grove Road; and a one-year extension for a preliminary plat for a 71,552-acre tract along FM 875 and east of Baucum Road.
