The Midlothian Fire Department responded to the following incidents:
Young anglers net fish and prizes at derby
A total catch of nearly 11 pounds, 13 ounces of fish netted Maveryk Davidson first place in the Bass Division (ages 8 to 12 years) at last Saturday’s Kids Fishing Derby held at Midlothian’s Community Park Pond. Taking the top slot in the Minnow Division (4 to 7 years) was Travis Hernandez, with a total catch of five pounds, one ounce.
Garth Brooks tribute band to take the stage at Summer Beats
Bring your “Friends in Low Places” to Community Park, 3601 S. 14th Street, on Saturday, June 14, to take in Shameless – a tribute to Garth Brooks – at this year’s first free Beats concert.

Two orphaned brothers headed west in search of adventure and a new life. The story is common in the annals of the frontier. In the case of brothers Francis and Thomas Lubbock of South Carolina, their story would play an important role in Texas history.
Manna House receives $50K MCDC grant
Manna House, a nonprofit serving families across Ellis County, is proud to announce it has received a $50,000 grant from the Midlothian Community Development Corporation (MCDC). The funds will directly support the Back-to-School Kickoff, an annual initiative that provides essential school supplies and wellness resources to local students and families in need.
Luke Clayton: Ray Hubbard white bass on steady bite
Lake Ray Hubbard fishing guide Brandon Sargent with Lead Slingers Guide Service eased the throttle back on his big 27 foot custom guide boat and studied our route to a fishing hotspot on his GPS. On close inspection, I could readily see the spot we would be fishing had been visited many times, the screen on the graph had saved the previous routes and once over the submerged ridge, the spot was completely blotted out on the graph.
Locals named to Midwestern St. honors
WICHITA FALLS — Midwestern State University recognized 977 honor students for the Spring 2025 semester. The President's Honor Roll included 360 students, the Provost's Honor Roll included 267 students and the Dean's Honor Roll included 350 students.
Water conservation in effect through Sept. 30
Annual City of Midlothian water conservation measures took effect June 1 that require residents and businesses to refrain from irrigating their lawns or landscaping between the hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., except for hand watering or the use of drip/subsurface irrigation or properly working soaker hoses.
Jags' Blackwell named 15-5A Coach of the Year
Head Coach of the Year in District 15-5A has been named recently as Heritage Jaguars’ Justin Blackwell. This motivational and encouraging coach has been at the helm of the Jags boys baseball team since 2018.
