Midlothian’s annual National Night Out event will take place in neighborhoods across the city and state on the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 7.
The event offers activities for the entire family, including visits with first responders, appearances by Captain America of Texas and the K-9 unit, bounce houses, emergency vehicles, emergency preparedness information, and free refreshments.
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. For 41 years, National Night Out has been enhancing the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while inspiring a true sense of community. One way that safe communities are built is by encouraging neighbors to get to know each other and NNO offers this opportunity.
Millions of people take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories, and military bases worldwide. Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts, visits from emergency personnel, and much more. Cities compete to see who can have the most people participate in their event. In 2024, Midlothian’s NNO ranked No. 2 in the state and No. 10 in the nation for cities with a population between 15,000 to 50,000 population.
Residents and businesses throughout Midlothian are invited to decorate yards and storefronts, string blue lights and turn on porch lights, keeping with the theme “Putting Unity in the Community.”
Neighborhoods can organize block parties and parades or individuals can hold front yard cookouts. The point is to generate goodwill in our community with our police force and each other.
Members of the Midlothian Police Department will make appearances at every celebration.
