The Midlothian area can now add yet another television series to its burgeoning portfolio of location credits. The independent series “The Chosen” will soon commence filming Season 4 at Camp Hoblitzelle, and the Paramount mega-hit “Yellowstone” was recently shooting scenes next door in downtown Venus.

Thanks to a grant by the Midlothian Community Development Corporation, this summer’s popular, free concert series will continue on into the fall, beginning Saturday, Sept. 24 with a show by Mars Hill Band, 7 p.m. at Midlothian Community Park, 3601 S. 14th Street.

More than 500 concertgoers enjoyed a hometown concert by country artist Amanda Kate Ferris at Friday night’s finale in a series of three free concerts held by the City of Midlothian at Community Park’s Art Pierard Memorial Amphitheater this summer.

Fastlane, an Eagles tribute band, will take the stage at a free concert on Saturday, July 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Midlothian Community Park, 3601 S. 14th Street. The second in a three-concert series known as Summer Beats is being presented by Texas Health Hospital in Mansfield.

The Midlothian area has all of a sudden become a very popular location for the filming industry, and local leaders welcome the influx. Thousands dressed in biblical costumes descended upon the Salvation Army’s Camp Hoblitzelle over the last week to take part in the filming of one of the New Testament’s most iconic tales for the hit TV series “The Chosen.” Over a four-day stretch last week, about 12,000 extras — ranging in age from infant to 91 and from all 50 states and from 36 countries — flocked to the Cement City for the filming of all four Gospels’ account of Jesus feeding 5,000 people with a few loaves of bread and fish.
