Refel Rushing knows there are people in Ellis County who love creative writing and nature as much as he does. So he’s creating an opportunity for them to join together and enjoy both.

The new Art Pierard Memorial Amphitheater will be the site of a series of three, free, outdoor concerts, themed Summer Beats, this summer. Located at Midlothian Community Park Phase 2, 3601 S. 14th, the amphitheater was dedicated to the memory of late Councilman Art Pierard at opening ceremonies in March.

It was a hot time in the old downtown of Midlothian on Saturday night as about 5,000 attendees boogeyed to the music of favorite band Le Freak at the annual 8th Street Dance. The unseasonably toasty mid-90s weather for mid-May gave the event a distinct summertime vibe, but as the sun set and the temperature cooled, many in the crowd popped out of their lawn chairs and grew more festive.

I think it was seeing the truck. An early scene in Hulu’s drama “The Girl From Plainville,” a series based on the death of a teenager by suicide in 2014, shows a black pickup truck similar to the one in which Conrad Roy III died.

The 2022 Movies in the Park schedule includes three popular family movies, kicking off with Disney’s “Encanto” on Saturday, June 4, 7 p.m. at Hawkins Spring Park, 1498 FM 1387.

If those ads with Nicole Kidman being wowed by the movies haven’t enticed you back into a theater yet, then a summer movie season packed with Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Elvis, Thor and a heap of dinosaurs should do the trick.
