P&Z OKs plan for 53-lot subdivision

After a discussion and a pair of tied votes, the Midlothian Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday night ultimately approved a planned development for a property on the south side of West Highland Road and east of Mockingbird Lane. The development was finally agreed to after a condition was added to extend a stub-out on the south side of the subdivision.

Sheriff backs deputy amid viral arrest video

Ellis County Sheriff Brad Norman over the July 4 holiday weekend addressed a video that circulated on social media involving a sheriff’s deputy making an arrest, stating that the deputy’s actions were in line with Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures regarding use of force. The video, which was shot by a bystander and shared on Facebook on July 3 by the poster Smash Da Topic, shows the deputy delivering a closed-fist strike to a subject who, Norman said in a media release, was actively failing to comply with verbal commands.
