State Sen. Birdwell won't run again in 2026
Texas state Sen. Brian Birdwell (R-Granbury) announced on Monday that he will not be seeking reelection to a fifth 4-year term, leaving the seat open for the 2026 Republican primary and general election.

Ice cream shop gets licked … for now
With a large audience showing up to City Hall mostly in opposition, a divided Midlothian City Council spent more than two hours Tuesday night discussing a downtown planned development for an expanded ice cream shop at 105 South 4rd Street. In the end, following numerous comments from the public, the council voted 4-3 to deny the proposal without prejudice and directed staff to set up a workshop to discuss the matter.
MISD trustees OK preliminary '24-'25 budget
Needing to have a budget in place by July 1 but not yet fully knowing what’s in store for school finances, the Midlothian ISD board of trustees Monday night moved forward with a preliminary budget for the 2025-2026 school year. The general fund, child nutrition fund and debt service fund budgets were approved for the upcoming school year.
MPD takes part in child predator sting
The Midlothian Police Department and other agencies in Ellis County recently took part in a federally-led child sexual exploitation sting that netted more than 240 arrests and the rescue of more than 100 children across North Texas. The North Texas Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and FBI Dallas’s North Texas Child Exploitation Task Force announced on June 11 the conclusion of Operation Soteria Shield, a month-long collaborative enforcement effort conducted in April aimed at rescuing children from online sexual exploitation and bringing perpetrators to justice.
P&Z approves plan for new data center
Another data center in the city of Midlothian is in the works for the area west of RailPort Business Park. The Midlothian Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday night approved a planned development for an approximately 174-acre property generally north of Forbes Road and west of V.V.
Aviation fans wing it at Mid-Way breakfast
Mid-Way Regional Airport hosted its annual fly-in and pancake breakfast on Saturday, June 7. The event offered free admission and featured classic airplane displays, helicopter rides and a car show, along with family-friendly activities such as face painting, balloon animals and a bounce house.
Lions Club installs new officers, honors servant leaders
The Midlothian Lions Club hosted its annual awards banquet and officer installation ceremony on June 5, celebrating nearly eight decades of community service and recognizing members who exemplify servant leadership and dedication to others.
