Abortion’s monumental victims

Another sad, but necessary reminder of the human propensity for cruelty and violence opened in Washington, D.C. last month. On June 13, the Victims of Communism Museum joined the preexisting Victims of Communism Memorial on Capitol Hill in commemorating the more than 100 million lives lost to international communism and the 1.5 billion unfortunate souls still living under communist rule. But even as the latter figure continues to add to the former, communism will never surpass abortionism as the world’s deadliest ideology. Nothing will.

Plan now to pray for schools

Summertime for churches is similar to summertime in schools. It is a time of recharging, but summer is also a critical planning time. Little happens in the fall or spring without intense planning in the summers, which is why this is the perfect time to discuss formal plans for Second Sunday School Safety Prayer (or S4 Prayer). The lost conversation

Eight days of rafting down the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon with my daughter promised to be an exceptional experience. Introducing myself to a fellow voyager, a Texan, I joked that surely Texas wasn’t really planning to secede, because it would be a pain to have to obtain a visa to visit Austin. This didn’t seem to go over very well. Perhaps I had overreached. I retreated for the rest of the trip into an affable neutrality.

Good guys with guns?

“I believe in Jesus, guns and babies.” So declares Kandiss Taylor, GOP candidate for governor of Georgia, in a campaign ad. Or how about: “I’m Eric Greitens, Navy SEAL, and today, we’re going RINO-hunting.” This is not about killing rhinoceroses. “RINO” stands for Republican in Name Only – you know, anti-Trumpers. Greitens, former governor of Missouri, who resigned in the wake of a sexual abuse allegation, is now running for the Senate – running fully armed and dangerous as hell, at least according to his little TV ad, which features him and a bunch of guys dressed up in camouflage outfits, fully armed, kicking someone’s door open, tossing in a smoke bomb.
