A former understudy of legendary Waxahachie head volleyball coach Sandy Faussett-Stoops is coming back home to her alma mater. Erika Weber, who has coached with distinction at nearby Midlothian Heritage the last three seasons, was announced this week as a new assistant volleyball coach at WHS.
The Midlothian Panthers ended regular-season play with a pair of losses to the Joshua Owls, but now the Panthers can turn their attention to the playoffs. The Panthers suffered a 6-1 loss to the Owls on the road last Tuesday and closed out the District 14-5A schedule with a 3-2 loss at Ronnie Clanton Field on Friday night.
The Heritage Jaguars came up just short of winning a third state girls’ soccer title in five seasons, but there were still plenty of postseason honors to be had for the members of the team. The Jaguars enjoyed three all-state selections and were also handed numerous awards by the coaches of District 8-4A at the end of the season.
The Midlothian Lady Panthers had a tough draw in the Class 5A Region II softball playoff bracket, and Class 5A No. 14-ranked Forney lived up to its billing as the Lady Jackrabbits ended MHS’ season on Friday night, 20-1 in five innings, to sweep their bi-district series on the Lady Panthers’ home field.
