SAN ANTONIO — The Midlothian High School girls’ doubles team of Hannah Hobbs and Gwen Robinson made history last week, becoming the first Midlothian ISD tennis individual or team to win a match at the University Interscholastic League state tennis tournament. Hobbs and Robinson advanced to the Class 5A girls’ doubles state quarterfinals on Thursday, defeating Helena Donovan and Sophia Porter of Austin LASA, 6-3, 6-4.
FORNEY — The Heritage Jaguars quest for a state championship in the Texas high school baseball 2025 playoffs came to an abrupt end on Saturday afternoon, May 17, at the hands of the Lovejoy Leopards by a score of 1-0 in Game 3 at the neutral site of North Forney High School. In the Region II semifinal playoff series, it was a matchup of arguably the top two teams in the region.
It’s been one of those weeks that I’ve stuck pretty close to home and caught up on some past due writing, mostly on an article I’m working on pertaining to predation by raccoons.

It was Friday evening, May 9 and the stage was set for Game 2 of the series between the visiting Mesquite Poteet Pirates (16-15-2) and the Midlothian Heritage Jaguars. The game was supposed to be played at the Heritage home field, but due to an unexpected rain shower and the ever-present threat of even more rain, the officials moved the playoff game across town to Midlothian High School’s Ronnie Clanton Field.
GRAND PRAIRIE —Behind another pair of strong pitching performances, the Midlothian baseball Panthers took care of Dallas W.T. White in rapid succession last weekend, rolling to area-round shutout victories of 5-0 and 7-0 to become one of 16 teams remaining in the Class 5A Division I statewide bracket.
As the school year winds down, families throughout Midlothian are gearing up for an active and enriching summer. Several youth sport camps are being offered this spring and summer by a variety of organizations, each offering unique programming, expert coaching, and unforgettable memories for young athletes of all ages.
When I crossed the Red River north of Paris last week, heading north to spend a couple of days at the Choctaw Hunting Lodge with some great old friends and a few new ones, “Ole’ Red” was as high as I’d seen her in a long time. The swiftly moving water was the not really red but more of a chocolate color from all the sediment it was carrying downstream.
