The sanctioning body announced that Richard Petty will ride atop its historic float “Always Forward” that celebrates NASCAR’s 75th anniversary and the upcoming Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum. The parade, which will be held on Monday, Jan. 2., is part of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses which also features the famed Rose Bowl Game.
The main event of the exhibition race held inside the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum expands for the Feb. 5 race as the field will increase to 27 cars, bumped up from 23 in last year’s inaugural running.

DALLAS — The Midlothian High School wrestling team brought home plenty of hardware from the Lonestar Christmas Open, taking away seven gold medals in all on Friday at St. Mark’s High School.
The Class 5A No. 20-ranked Midlothian Panthers maintained an unblemished record in the District 8-5A early going last week.
After a slow start to the year, the Midlothian Lady Panthers find themselves back at .500 for the year and in the thick of the chase for a playoff berth in District 8-5A. Last Tuesday night, the Lady Panthers romped past Cleburne at MHS Arena, 81-27.
MANSFIELD — The Class 5A No. 19 Heritage High School girls’ basketball team suffered its first District 8-5A loss of the season on Friday night as No. 3-ranked Mansfield Timberview pulled away for a 46-28 win.
