Turning wild hogs into cash

Having been raised on a small farm in northeast Texas, it’s hard for me to look at a hog, feral or domestic, as a pest but when it comes to feral hogs, I’ve had to change my thinking. Wild hogs do a great deal of damage to ranch and farmland and create problems for native wildlife, especially ground-nesting birds such as turkey and quail. Their numbers have to be controlled, I get that. But, it’s still hard for me to see all that good eating pork going to waste.

Elliott grabs thrilling Talladega victory, advances in playoffs

Always the unquestionable fan favorite at NASCAR’s famed Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, Georgia-native Chase Elliott made a last-lap pass to claim the NASCAR Cup Series YellaWood 500 victory Sunday afternoon – having to better one of his best friends, Ryan Blaney, to earn the first automatic bid into the next round of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs.

Crappie under the Christmas tree?

WHAT? Crappie for Christmas presents? Well, maybe but if you are a crappie angler, you can find them “lighting up” your sonar around isolated submerged trees. This past week, while doing the “legwork” for this article with guide Brandon Sargent, Lead Slingers Guide Service at Lake Ray Hubbard, we fished around some large trees that have been underwater since the mid sixties when the lake filled.

A winning weekend for MISD XC squads

DENTON — The Midlothian Lady Panthers captured a team championship, and Lincoln Husbands earned a bronze medal at the Braswell Little D Classic last Friday at North Lakes Park. Husbands crossed the finish line in 19 minutes, 20.49 seconds for the Lady Panthers, while Austyn Pena was 14th in 20:41.70, and Harper Edmondson 16th in 20:52.08.
