National Parks and Rec Month theme, “Build Together, Play Together,” emphasizes the variety of ways parks bring people together, including an upcoming free movie, concert, and Annual Parktopia.
7th Annual Parktopia takes place on Friday, July 18, 6 to 9 p.m., Community Park soccer pavilion, 3601 S. 14th Street. The outdoor, free, family fun includes lawn games, kite-flying, facepainting, balloon art, food, souvenirs, prizes, and more. This event is made possible by Methodist Midlothian Medical Center and Midlothian Community Development Corporation.
The second family movie of the summer was postponed because of inclement weather and has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 19, 8 p.m., featuring “Inside Out 2” at Community Park, 3601 S. 14th St., 8 p.m. Bring chairs and blankets for lawn seating. Free water and popcorn will be provided, but there will be no food for purchase, so bring snacks. Movies in the Park are sponsored by Methodist Midlothian Medical Center. Higginbotham Brothers Ace Hardware provides prizes.
Emerald City Band returns to Summer Beats on July 26. To be held at Community Park Amphitheater, 3601 S. 14th St., this high-powered concert begins at 7:30 p.m. These events are free and open to the public thanks to support from Midlothian Community Development Corporation and Fidelis Senior Home Care. No tickets needed. Food for purchase will be available. Outside food and drink and coolers are allowed.
In addition to offering special events, Midlothian boasts 15 parks with various amenities, including a splash pad, two nature parks, two fishing ponds, a fitness court, a skate park, tennis and pickleball, sand volleyball, and basketball courts. Additionally, Midlothian is home to six recreational youth sport leagues. Registration for recreational soccer, baseball, and softball are happening now.
