Midlothian man killed in storm that rips through Ellis County

Ellis County is recovering after a line of strong storms ripped through the area Saturday morning, which led to one death and widespread property damage.

According to the city of Ennis, a 42-year-old man from Midlothian was killed in the storm. Reports state his family members were also injured.

Several buildings and structures throughout the city were damaged as well.

In Waxahachie, a few sidewalks were closed off in Downtown due to broken glass and the potential for injury from falling glass, according to the city. Reports also state that buildings along Ferris Avenue were damaged, and multiple 18-wheelers were turned over by high winds on Interstate 35E.

Several roads in Waxahachie were closed due to damage from wind gusts, including Howard Road and Howard at Old Italy Road, Brown Street at Barger and Criddle between Ferris Avenue and Cow Alley.

The Farmers Market had to close at 11:45 a.m. due to a loss of power.

The cities of Waxahachie and Ennis and the Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM) is asking residents to report property damage from the severe weather by going to damage.tdem.texas.gov.

The information collected will help officials identify resource needs and monetary support from various governmental resources. Officials said this is not a replacement for contacting your insurance provider and not a guarantee for government or FEMA assistance.
