U.S. Rep. Jake Ellzey will return to his hometown to speak before the Midlothian Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday during its annual State of the Legislature Luncheon.
The luncheon, presented by Town Square Title, will take place from 11:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the Midlothian Conference Center, 1 Community Circle Drive.
Ellzey, a Republican who is seeking a second full term representing Texas Congressional District 6, will provide valuable insights into the latest legislative developments affecting the community, according to the Chamber.
“This is your chance to hear firsthand about the issues that matter most to our businesses and residents,” the Chamber said.
Tickets are available by visiting the Midlothian Chamber of Commerce website.
Ellzey is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and had a 20-year career (1992-2012) as a Naval officer, achieving the rank of commander and flying multiple types of aircraft on numerous missions, including in support of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.
After his Navy career, he served as a commissioner of the Texas Veterans Commission from 2012-2018, and also worked as an airline pilot and businessman.
Ellzey first entered elective politics in 2018, running against incumbent Rep. Ron Wright in the GOP primary. In 2020, Ellzey was elected to the Texas Legislature to represent House District 10, but a few months later threw his hat into the ring for a special election to fill the U.S. House seat vacated by the death of Wright.
Ellzey narrowly advanced to a runoff against Susan Wright, the widow of the late congressman, and won the runoff by a 53-47 percent margin in July 2021. The following year, Ellzey easily won re-election to a full term.
