The Heights to open new facility July 12

The Heights — Ellis County Family Resources was founded in 2018 to assist family members who find themselves in abusive relationships and are looking for a way out. Thanks to the generosity of numerous Texans, the organization will finally have a place from which to help.

The Heights ribbon cutting and open house is happening next Friday, July 12 at 1 p.m. at its new facility at 2230 Bryan Place in Midlothian.

“Please make plans to come to our new campus and tour the facilities!” The Heights posted on Facebook. “It is an honor to come together to spotlight the beauty of partnership and collaboration with our 14 onsite partner organizations! What a beautiful opportunity we have to organically display the power of WE!”

The Heights is honored to receive a grant from the Texas Bar Foundation. These funds will empower The Heights to incorporate legal advocacy as a crucial service provided in a centralized location for domestic violence victims in Ellis County.

Since its inception in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than $27 million in grants to law-related programs. Supported by members of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation is the nation’s largest charitably-funded bar foundation.

The Heights center of services is a faith-based organization that embodies the family justice center model.

“We are not a standalone nonprofit among many others,” The Heights states on its website. “The heart of our model is to unite other agencies together to serve the victims of family abuse in ways that provide public safety and not just social work.

“The family justice center model has proven successful across the country and has been designated as a best-practice model for family abuse intervention and prevention by the U.S. Department of Justice,” The Heights goes on to state.

According to The Heights, 1 in 3 women experience family abuse; 1 in 3 police calls are family abuse calls; and 1 in 3 violent crimes are family abuse crimes. Even more shocking, 3 out of 4 children repeat violence to their intimate partner. Among the services The Heights has to offer are: · Counseling
