TxDOT to hold public meeting on FM 663 work

The Texas Department of Transportation is taking the first steps toward improving one of Midlothian’s busiest and most congested thoroughfares.

TxDOT is proposing to widen Farm-to-Market 663 from FM 875 to U.S. Highway 287 in Midlothian. The agency will be conducting both an in-person and an online virtual public meeting on the proposed project, with the same information available in each format.

The in-person meeting will be held on Thursday, May 15, from
5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Midlothian Bible Church at
4250 FM 663. The virtual meeting will be a recorded event and will be available from Thursday, May 15, at 5 p.m. through Friday, May 30, at 11:59 p.m. at www.keepitmovingdallas.com/projects/fm-roads/fm663 .

The in-person public meeting will be held in an open house format. Representatives from TxDOT and project consultants will be available to answer questions about the project.

The virtual meeting will include a pre-recorded presentation with audio and video components, along with exhibits and other information. If you do not have internet access, you may call (214) 320-6244 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, to ask questions and access project materials.

According to TxDOT, the proposed project consists of the reconstruction and widening of FM 663 from FM 875 to US 287, for approximately 3.5 miles. The proposed improvements consist of two (ultimately three) 12-foot-wide lanes in each direction divided by a raised median. A shared-use path on the southbound side and a sidewalk on the northbound side are proposed. The project would also include turn-lanes and intersection improvements at side and cross streets. The proposed right of way width varies from approximately 125 to 185 feet.

The proposed project would, subject to final design considerations, require additional right of way and potentially displace residential and commercial structures. Relocation assistance is available for displaced persons and businesses. Information about the TxDOT Relocation Assistance Program and services and benefits for those displaced and other affected property owners can be obtained by calling the TxDOT Dallas District Right of Way office at (214) 320-6675 or by visiting the project website.

Project materials are also available online at the project website. These materials will also be available in hard copy form for review at the in-person meeting.

Comments from the public regarding the proposed project are requested and may be submitted by mail to the TxDOT Dallas District Office, Attn: Kibru Andargie, 4777 East Highway 80, Mesquite, Texas 75150 or by email to Kibru.Andargie@txdot.gov. Verbal comments may be submitted by leaving a voicemail at (469) 920-2505.

All comments must be received on or before or postmarked by 11:59 p.m., Friday, May 30, 2025. Responses to comments received will be available online at the project website once they have been prepared.
